Imagine coaching as a voyage of discovery. Together, we will delve deeper into the following areas:
In the free initial consultation, we clarify that coaching is suitable for you (in some cases, fear of flying may be just a symptom of other phobias or a generalized anxiety disorder, which may need to be addressed first through psychotherapy). We discuss the next steps. Here, you can share individual preferences for your optimal coaching experience.
As part of getting to know each other, in the first session, we discuss, among other things, your personal experiences related to the fear of flying. Even at this stage, we focus not only on challenges but primarily on your resources, which can be utilized and expanded upon in coping with fear of flying.
We delve into the psychological fundamentals and physical symptoms of anxiety. Anxiety warns us of dangers and ensures our survival. However, if 'false alarms' are repeatedly triggered by anxiety in specific situations, it becomes a burden. Misconceptions, lack of knowledge, and an attention directed towards perceived threats contribute to an anxiety cycle that seems difficult to break.
By acquiring tangible knowledge about psychological and physical anxiety processes, we aim to break the cycle of anxiety. Numerous practical examples support us in this endeavor. We prevent the 'fear of fear' and misinterpretations of physical anxiety symptoms.
Various self-help tools assist you in breaking down anxiety-promoting structures. They operate on a cognitive and/or physical level. You learn to influence your body using these techniques and regulate anxiety symptoms, effectively interrupting the anxiety cycle.
Together, we discover the techniques that work well for you, creating your unique toolkit of resources that will accompany you on your journeys.
In multiple coaching sessions, the self-help tools are further explored with each session. These tools can also be beneficial outside of the aircraft. In the process, self-efficacy is strengthened not only in dealing with fear of flying but also in other areas of life.
We discuss, among other things, the fundamental principles of flight physics, aircraft technology, and the details of a typical flight sequence. What sounds and sensations can you expect at various points during the flight, and what do they exactly mean?
To enhance understanding and solidify knowledge, we examine various images and video sequences. This process activates new connections in the brain and weakens the neural pathways associated with fear. By making the flight experience predictable, you can regain control over your thoughts.
As part of the coaching, we can use a simulation program to replicate various flight scenarios, allowing you to experiment with and reinforce new knowledge and techniques. Optionally, I am happy to accompany you on an actual flight, actively supporting you in applying your newfound knowledge and techniques. We can discuss the details individually if you are interested.
The causes, development, and symptoms of flight anxiety are highly individual. Nevertheless, the following symptoms can be indicative of flight anxiety:
Do you feel uneasy when flying? Do you experience anxiety on an airplane? If so, you're in good company. On almost every one of my flights, I have passengers who are afraid of flying. The good news: Fear of flying can be overcome, for example, through individual coaching.
Fear of flying is common. However, various factors can contribute to its development and persistence in each person. Overcoming flight anxiety is a highly individual process. That's why I'm here to provide you with trustworthy one-on-one support.
To ensure that nothing hinders your coaching, we discuss possible contraindications in advance over the phone. The coaching takes place online or in person in the Düsseldorf area. If you have other location preferences, feel free to let me know. There are (almost) no limits to the individual design of your optimal coaching experience.
Fear plays a critical role in ensuring our survival; the fear center is deeply rooted in the brain and operates with remarkable speed. However, even stimuli and thoughts that are harmless can trigger intense activity in the anxiety center and its associated neural pathways, leading to anxiety symptoms that are often perceived as distressing.
A central objective of the coaching process is to construct new, stable pathways. The essential building material for these pathways is: Clear and understandable factual knowledge.
By applying this knowledge across various scenarios, we channel traffic onto your newly constructed roads (or neural pathways). Simultaneously, we employ a range of tools and techniques to diminish traffic on "Fear Street." These tools and techniques, once acquired, can be independently utilized in diverse contexts. Among them are well-established relaxation techniques, as fear and relaxation are incompatible cohabitants.
With the overcoming of fear, you not only fly more relaxed, but at the same time, your resilience (mental strength) and self-efficacy can also grow.

No. My psychological counseling services are aimed at mentally healthy individuals. Psychotherapy may be appropriate if your fear of flying is based on other anxiety disorders or exceeds a clinical threshold. We will clarify this in the free initial consultation.
The simulation program can realistically depict a virtual flight. During the virtual flight, we go through all the points that are relevant to overcoming your fear of flying. Departure and destination airports can be adjusted to match your upcoming real flight, so you are perfectly prepared for it.
